We are adding open mats at The Sweep Spot. It will be every Saturday from 10am till 12pm. Teens and Adults are welcome to come train!
Game face. Our little kids' program at The Sweep Spot prioritizes: 1. Fun - jiu jitsu is tough, it's hard sport. We want to instill a joy for training. It needs to be fun or they won't want to do it! 2. Focus - we play simple games with clear objectives, and we teach them to problem solve to complete the objective. 3 Develop athletic movements - we spend a lot of time learning various types of crawling, tumbling, and basic gymnastics skills. These skills are great for young athletes to help develop movement patterns that aid in athletic skill transfer. We offer week long free trials for kids and have all the equipment needed for your child to give jiu-jitsu a try! Come on by!
Coach Adam and I are really proud of this kid. Daniel took a big step up in his 1st jiu-jitsu competition and went into the adult division. Competition isn't always about winning, it's a chance to see where we are and what we need to work on. This kid is gonna be a real problem for these guys real soon. If you're planning to visit Lake Tahoe this summer, remember we have a lot of black bears in the area. If you want to learn to defend yourself against bears, stop by @the_sweepspot or @elevated_bjj. Our Jiu-jitsu is 100% effective against these apex predators, as shown by the flow chart above.
Professor Adam demonstrates an effective snap down. Anytime you see the top of your opponent’s head, take it. Cover their head and “give them a hole to fall into”—meaning, don’t throw them into your own base. This low-energy takedown puts you in a great position to break them down further or attack their neck. Perfect for conserving energy while staying on the offensive.
At The Sweep Spot we clean our mats using a fancy smancy hydrostatic sprayer with a precise amount of disinfectant, all according to science. #ibeliveinscience
Mastering head position is key in both standing engagements and grappling on the mat. With proper head position, you dictate the orientation of your opponent's hips. Watch @ericfostermoore demonstrating this crucial tactic as he sets up for a single leg against coach Adam. It's subtle, but notice the orientation of their hips as the head position changes.
